I’ve been to Madklubben Vesterbro twice. First time we were three people, second time we were seven. The food was more or less equally good at both occasions.

Madklubben is a very good example of what many restaurants in Copenhagen get right at the moment: Very decent, somewhat creative, well-cooked food for a very reasonable price.

The restaurant currently serves a three course menu for 325 kroner (€44), and a la carte startes range from 50 (€7) to 125 kroner (€17). Main courses range from 100 kr. (€13) to 175 kr. (€24) (unless you choose prime beef, which can set you back up to 300 kr. (€40)), while desserts range from 50 kr. (€7) to 75 kr. (€10).

The first time, one of my companions had a burger, which he didn’t particularly care for.

I can’t remember one of the dishes I had the first time, as I didn’t take a picture, but this one was a mushroom risotto:

Not the best risotto I’ve ever had, and I’ve made better ones myself, but then that’s common outside of Italy.

 My dessert that day was a chocolate dessert with passion fruit if I’m not mistaken:

On my second visit we had several different dishes. I started out with crab meat with jam, which was very refreshing and a lovely combination:

Then, again, I had risotto, this time with asparagus and herbs:

This was pleasant, but a bit too rich.

Others shared steak and chips, which they sliced themselves at the table:

If you were two people for dessert you could choose the option of getting three different small desserts to share: Ice cream sunday, creme brulêe with mango ice cream, and panna cotta with berries and crunch:

As said in the beginning: Very decent food – not perfect or Michelin star level, but well-cooked and fairly creative food at a very reasonable price: A place I would be happy to come back to.

Dansk anmeldelse

Jeg har været på Madklubben Vesterbro to gange. Første gang var vi tre personer, anden gang syv.

Madklubben Vesterbro er et godt eksempel på, hvad en del restauranter i København gør rigtigt: Hæderlig, forholdvis kreativ vellavet mad til en meget fornuftig pris.

Restauranten serverer en trerettersmenu for 325 kr. og a la carte svinger forretterne for tiden mellem 50 og 125 kroner. Hovedretterne ligger på 100 til 175 kr. (medmindre man vælger fint oksekød, hvilket kan rende op i 300 kr.), og desserterne på 50 til 75 kr.

Første gang fik en af mine medspisere en burger, som han ikke var specielt vild med.

Jeg har glemt en af retterne fra mit første besøg, da jeg ikke fik taget et billede, men jeg fik også en svamperisotto:

Det var ikke en af de bedre risottoer, jeg har fået, og jeg har lavet dem bedre selv, men sådan er det ofte uden for Italien.

Min dessert var en chokoladedessert med passionsfrugt, hvis jeg ikke tager fejl:

Til mit andet besøg valgte vi en del forskellige retter. Jeg startede med krabbe med marmelade, som var en rigtig dejlig, velkomponeret, frisk og velsmagende ret:

Derefter fik jeg, igen, risotto – denne gang med asparges og krydderurter. Det var en velsmagende ret, men lidt for tung:

To personer kunne dele en dessert, som var tre små desserter: Sunday-is, creme brulee med mangois, pannacotta med bær og knas:

Så som nævnt i begyndelsen er det hæderlig mad – ikke Michelinstjerneværdigt, men vellavet og rimelig kreativ mad til en meget rimelig pris: Et sted, jeg gerne tager tilbage til.
